Explore videos through time. Video frames get decomposed and arranged as a 4D volume, letting you orbit, slice, and shape footage into translucent moving sculptures.
Keep time moving!
Timefield 4D stacks the frames of your footage in 3D space. Move around the stack, spread the frames apart, or slice through them to see how a shot changes over time. Use brightness or alpha to make parts of the image transparent, revealing movement across multiple frames at once. As the timeline plays, new frames pass through the volume, so the whole structure stays in motion.
There’s a lot to explore in the 4th dimension, and you’ll be glad that you’re able to do it in realtime!
Four ways to see time
Solid turns the clip into a sculpted block whose sides are slit-scans of the frame edges. Translucent Volume renders it as glowing smoke. Separated Slices spreads the frames out like cards. Cross Section cuts a plane through time, so one image can hold several moments.
Only what moves
Motion Only automatically works out the static background and removes it, so only the moving subject leaves a trail. You can also set opacity from brightness, luminance, saturation, a key colour or alpha.
Bend time
Curve the stack into an arc, or close it into a full ring where the end of the clip meets its start.
Glass, frost and light
Turn frames into glass panes with reflections and glowing edges, or frosted slabs that blur and soften. Add ambient occlusion and shadows, and set it all on a white studio floor where the frames cast coloured light. You can also cast shadows alone on transparency, to comp over your own background.
Point clouds
Turn the footage into data points, lidar style: scan lines across surfaces or dust through the volume, coloured by the footage or by age.
The finishing touches
Glow, chromatic aberration and grain, built in.
Smooth between frames
Optical-flow frame interpolation makes motion flow between frames instead of repeating frame by frame.
Fly back into the shot
Snap to Front lines the stack up exactly with the original footage. Transition Completion then glides the whole volume back into the shot and dissolves to it seamlessly, ready-made for transitions.
Works with your camera
Use the comp’s AE camera, or the built-in rotation and position. Drag handles right in the comp window to size and stretch the volume.
17 presets to start from, and every setting is keyframable, dropdowns included.
